Take a first look at plans for new affordable homes at Ockford Ridge

We are ready to share our plans for 20 new affordable homes at Site F of Ockford Ridge in Godalming and we'd love to know what you think.

Our plans feature both flats and houses, ensuring there are homes to suit families of different sizes, and there will be 32 off street parking spaces to reduce pressure on nearby roads.

Sustainability is at the heart of the design, reflecting our commitment to tackle climate change. Solar panels will produce renewable energy to power the new homes, including electric vehicle charging points and energy efficient LED lighting. Air Source Heat Pumps will be installed to provide a more efficient way of heating the homes, and high-quality double glazing will keep the heat in and the cold out.

Just click on the Ockford Ridge Site F tile to view the plans and have your say.

If you would like to meet our team in person, we have organised a drop-in event at  St Mark’s Church in Godalming on Tuesday 30 July from 3.30pm until 6.30pm. Please come and join us to talk about our proposals and ask any questions you may have.

Feedback on exciting plans for new sustainable homes in Elstead

Waverley Borough Council is inviting residents to a drop-in event at Elstead Youth Centre on Wednesday 10 July to view plans for 26 new affordable homes.

The council is proposing to demolish 10 existing properties and replace them with 26 new affordable homes at Springfield in Elstead. The drop-in event, which will run from 3.15pm until 6.15pm, is a chance to meet with the team managing the project, talk about the proposals and ask any questions.

The plans include different styles of homes, including flats, maisonettes and semi-detached houses, and feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes, providing residents with a choice of properties to suit all needs.

Each house and maisonette will have private gardens, the flats will share outdoor communal space and there will be landscaped public space for everyone to enjoy.

The new homes have been designed sympathetically to complement the existing style of the village, and off-street parking will be provided for each property to reduce pressure on the roads.

Sustainability is at the heart of the design, reflecting the council’s determination to take action on the Climate Emergency and protect the environment. Solar panels will produce renewable energy to power the new homes, including electric vehicle charging points and energy efficient LED lighting. Air Source Heat Pumps will be installed to provide a more efficient way of heating the homes, and high-quality double glazing will keep the heat in and the cold out.

The council has worked closely with Surrey County Council, the lead flood authority and consultants to ensure the scheme not only has no impact on existing surface water drainage, but it actually reduces flood risk in this part of Elstead. The scheme also aims to ensure the natural environment is in a better state than it was before, by delivering a biodiversity net gain of 20%.

Any residents who are unable to attend the drop-in event on 10 July are able to view the plans online from Monday 08 July on our new housing development engagement platform at: www.waverley.gov.uk/housingdev. All the information boards are available to read and there’s the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed layout and design.

Councillor Janet Crowe, co-portfolio holder for Housing Delivery, said:

“Our development at 13 to 22 Springfield in Elstead is an opportunity for us to provide much needed affordable housing for local people and families who would otherwise struggle to find a place of their own.

“We’ve taken great care to produce designs that are in keeping with the area and make the best use of new technology to maximise energy efficiency and protect the environment.

“I look forward to sharing our proposals on 10 July and I hope local residents are able to come along on the day to let us know what they think about the proposed new homes, Local Area of Play and our plans to refocus and improve The Quillets before we submit a formal planning application in the summer.”

Waverley among winners of Inaugural Surrey Building Control Awards 2023

The best of the borough’s construction projects and the teams working on them, were celebrated at the first Surrey Building Control Awards last week (Thursday 11 May 2023) at The Guildford Pavilion, Woodbridge Road Sportsground.

The aim of these new Awards is to recognise and reward the best construction projects and people working with Surrey’s Local Authority Building Control teams.

The judging panel reviewed a range of projects and talented individuals or teams that had worked with Surrey’s Building Control teams in 2022. They highlighted the strength of high quality workmanship across the projects; from simple extensions, complex barn conversions and new houses built on tricky terrain to larger, bolder housing developments and local authority housing schemes focusing on sustainability and lowering utility costs for residents. The nominations truly showcased the professional working relationships between the local building control teams and the project/client team.

Waverley was successful in the following categories:

WINNERS

Best quality workmanship – Best Builder – Craig Grover and team at Grover Building Services

Best quality workmanship – Best Architect – Ava O’Grady and team at C7 Architects

Best Site Manager – Clive Healey, Countryside Partnerships

Best New Local Authority Housing Development – Site B/now Laurel Close, Ockford Ridge, Godalming

Best Sustainable Development – Site B/now Laurel Close, Ockford Ridge, Godalming

Best Residential Extension – Starvelle Barn, Baynards

HIGHLY COMMENDED

Best public or community building: Hazelbank Stores, Ewhurst

Best individual new home – Treetop View, Farnham

Commenting on Site B/Laurel Close, Ockford Ridge, judges said:

“This development produced 17 superb, spacious and affordable homes.  Following demolition of 14, 1930s small, energy-inefficient houses, the housing development team created 17 stylish affordable energy efficient homes in their place.

The project addressed resident needs, helps with fuel poverty, and delivers Waverley the council's net zero and biodiversity targets.  Waverley Building Control balanced a sensible approach with the team, responding with speed to the contractor (Thakeham Homes) and developed a great working relationship.”

Renovations at Riverside Court now complete

Waverley Borough Council has now completed the creation of two new flats at Riverside Court in Farnham.

The project included the conversion of a former staff accommodation and a disused communal bathroom into two new, large one-bedroom flats. The new flats are modern with accessibility at the heart of the design. They are suitable for wheelchairs, have modern layouts, kitchens, accessible bathrooms and have private outside garden spaces.

Both flats are being advertised to residents via Waverley Borough Council’s choice-based lettings system called Waverley Homechoice, supporting the council’s aim to deliver quality, affordable housing for residents with accessibility needs.

The scheme was delivered by Fowler Building Contractors to the highest quality design specifications. Residents living within the other 29 flats at Riverside Court were kept notified throughout the duration of the works.

Waverley Borough Council Co-Portfolio Holder for Housing (Delivery), Councillor Janet Crowe, said:

“This is a comparatively small housing project, in relation to our other schemes, but will improve the health and wellbeing of the residents that move into these properties. In Fowler Building Contractors we have a partner who shares our values of community and quality, and we are delighted with the two new flats”.

Riverside Court is close to Farnham town centre, off Mike Hawthorn Drive, backing onto the towpath walk with footpath links to Gostrey Meadow. It has 29 self-contained flats with lift access to first and second floors. Several flats have balconies including the two occupied flats above the area where the refurbishment has taken place. There is a large tenant’s lounge and attractive courtyard garden in the middle of the complex with corridor access to rooms and lifts either side.

For more information about the marketing of these new flats visit www.waverleyhomechoice.org.uk.
